Caring for the Heart by Calming the Body & Mind

Every single one of us are challenged, each day, to find balance and peace of mind. Many of us wake up with stressful thoughts of the past or tasks of the day that need to be completed immediately. This is normal for those of us who have experienced trauma in life and it can create a lot of anxiety in the start of your day.

Join Leland Holgate Sr. for a session about how the brain works, the states of the brain, and how you can change the state of the body and the mind through self-regulation. Together we’ll explore creating a 15-20 minute morning routine and how that small amount of time each day can really set you up for a happier, more balanced day. You’ll receive an example of a morning routine and a template to create your own morning routine. We’ll close with a 10-15 minute self-regulation practice that can be done anywhere and helps to combat depression, anxiety, and insomnia.

We will cover how to make biochemical and emotional changes in your body and mind through a scientific process developed by experts. This process helps lower cortisol (our stress hormone), while simultaneously elevating our serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin levels (our happy hormones).

Leland Holgate Sr. is a combat veteran and was there for Route 91. He has used self-regulation techniques to soothe his body and mind after a lifetime of various traumatic experiences stemming from his service in the Air Force, physical therapy, substance abuse, and personal loss. He started the non-profit Warriors for Life America and teaches at the Downtown Yoga & Wellness Co-op.
