Every month, the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center and partnering agencies work together to provide a range of outreach activities to engage the Route 91 family and connect them with the services they may need. The theme of February’s outreach is “Heart to Heart” in recognition of the importance of staying heart-healthy, both physically and emotionally. Our February outreach sessions feature experts on the topics of coping with grief, caring for the heart by calming the body and mind, and living from the heart. We encourage you to attend these sessions in real-time or watch any that are recorded on your own timetable. Check out the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center’s YouTube channel for available videos that may interest you in our Video Resource Library.
Heart to Heart month also features the launch of Peer Support training for survivors who want to learn about a strengths-based approach to assist others with the same lived experience of coping with the after-effects of mass violence. Research has shown that people who have shared a traumatic event can offer a different type of support, which many find especially comforting and rewarding as they move through the healing journey together.
This new trauma-informed program is actually called “HEART.” The acronym stands for Helping, Empowering, And Rebuilding Together. HEART peers will be trained to offer services on an individual basis and through wellness webinars. They will learn evidence-based best practices to support one another and receive ongoing guidance from trauma-informed providers.
HEART training sessions are scheduled for the Tuesdays between February 9 and March 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. and will be recorded in case you have to miss one. For more information about HEART, visit vegasstrongrc.org/heart and watch the informational session video. You can also fill out an interest form or register for the trainings on that webpage.
You can sign up for all the February Heart to Heart special outreach sessions by visiting the Calendar tab of the website. We welcome your input on these sessions as well as topics you would like to see addressed in the coming months.
